What we collect and why.

The short version

We collect what we need to find you a place and, if you want, people to share it with. We never sell your personal information. You can see what others can see of you, download everything we hold, and delete your account whenever you like.

What we collect

Account: your name, email, and mobile number if you add one. Sign-in goes through Google or an emailed link; we never see a password.

Your search: what you asked for, the places we matched, the ones you saved or passed on, and the inquiries we drafted for you.

Your profile: what you do, your industry and school, where you are moving from, how you live day to day, and photos you upload. Gender and pronouns only if you choose to give them.

Renting readiness: whether your income is at least 40 times the rent, a credit score range and which documents you have ready. Never the income itself, never your documents, never your Social Security number.

Roommates: your roommate card, the hellos you send and receive, your chats, and anyone you block or report.

How you found us, and basic usage such as which pages you open and which buttons you press, so we can improve the service. This uses a random id kept in your browser, not a tracking cookie, and is never shared or sold. We don't store your IP address, only the city your network reports.

Talk to Dogoo: your chats with the assistant and the things you asked it to remember. You can see and delete every remembered line on your profile page.

Lease check (Pro): the lease text you paste is sent to our AI provider to read it and is not stored by us. We keep the findings, which quote short parts of the lease, until you delete them on the Lease check page. Remove names, account numbers and ID numbers before pasting.

Listings you ask us to check: the link or text you paste, and the report we write. Reports describe the listing and public records, not you.

Phone number: only if you give it, to reach you when text alerts are switched on. Text alerts are not live yet, so today it is only stored.

How we use it

To match listings to what you asked for, write inquiries that answer what landlords ask first, send you alerts, and match you with possible roommates.

Apartment matching never uses gender or any other protected trait. Renting readiness is used only to write your own inquiries; it is never shown to anyone.

We look at trends across many people (for example, how many people want a one bedroom in Astoria in November) to run and grow Dogoo. Those numbers never identify you.

Who can see what

Only you see your last name, email, phone, renting readiness and search.

If you turn your roommate card on, people whose plans and habits fit yours see your first name, photos, what you do, industry, bio, habits, and your gender if you chose to show it. They never see your last name, email or phone unless you share them in a chat.

Landlords and agents see only what you send them yourself. We never contact anyone in your name.

Who we share it with

Service providers that run Dogoo for us under contract: hosting (Vercel), database and file storage (Supabase), payments (Stripe), email and text delivery, and AI models that read listings, leases you paste and draft messages for you. They may use your data only to provide their service to us.

We do not sell personal information and do not share it for advertising.

We may disclose information when the law requires it or to protect someone's safety.

Your choices

Edit anything on your profile page, hide your roommate card, turn off alerts, or block anyone.

Download my data gives you a copy of everything we hold about you. Delete my account removes your searches, matches, inquiries, roommate card, photos, hellos, chats and sign-in.

Listing photos are shown from the site that published them; we do not store them. Photos you upload of yourself are stored so we can show them on your card and are deleted with your account.

Security and retention

Data is encrypted in transit and stored with access limited to our servers. We keep your account until you delete it. Roommate reports are kept as long as needed to keep the community safe.
